John is an internal evaluation practitioner within the Australian Government for nearly 10 years (currently with the Dept. of Social Services as a member of its central Evaluation Unit). He describes this as his 'full-time job', as he has also been (effectively part-time) at varying stages a student and later on-line lecturer in the Master of Evaluation course at University of Melbourne, a member of the AES Canberra Region Committee (either member, Activity Coordinator and Co-convenor), and currently a Fellow at both University of Melbourne and Charles Darwin University.
John's interests are in evaluation practice and theory (praxis), evaluation capability building, evaluation use and strategic evaluation. Its these interests that saw him being involved in initiatives such as the AES engaging with the Australian Government and developing submissions for the Department of Finance and the Australian Parliament Joint Committee for Public Accounts & Audit (JCPAA) on the Commonwealth Performance Framework. This in turn led to his accepting an invitation to fill a casual vacancy on the AES Board in May 2016 and Chair the AES Advocacy and Alliance Committee.
